Practice makes perfect. You don't want a Beethoven piece to sound like something else—that's disrespectful to the composer.
—Mark Yu, 9-year-old concert pianistI heard an interview with this kid on NPR. He's a prodigy. He's also pretty grounded, from the sound of him.
I love that statement. It challenges me as a conductor to not be content with "parts learned, sung in tune, good blend..." but to keep listening to the music until I find what makes it special—what makes it
true.
Great stuff.

What an insightful statement by what a young child. I love it.
I listened to that NPR interview with the kid and wept as I was driving. Amazing - and how he plays.
I heard that too... wasn't that a wonderful statement?!
